First Word(ish)

Amelia has been quite vocal for sometime now – carrying on long “conversations” with tiny pieces of fluff and herself and has up until now said the usual baby babble words which could mean any number of things in different contexts, like ‘Mama’ : ‘Mama, Mac, mine, [give to] me’; ‘Diddy’/'Dada’:'Daddy, dog,[give to]me, from the latin of course (do, dare, datum); ‘Baba’:'Baby, bottle, [give to] me  (dative case of Babba) and so on in that vein along with the more complex sounds that sound like ‘I love you’, ‘Kitty’,'Your argument is flawed’ and ‘I suggest that you revisit your findings’

Spoon!

Spoon!

Yesterday morning however she did utter a word so perfectly formed, and voiced with no dropped consonants or syllables which was unmistakable and required no cognitive effort on my part to understand, which was just as well as it was about 8am on a Sunday morning.

Jon had gone up to get her out of her cot and changed and had brought her down to sit or rather squirm in bead with us for a while and as soon as she saw me she said, wonderfully entoned:

Hellooo! and then proceeded to further greet me by sticking her finger in my nose.

I was of course overjoyed at this cheerful if somewhat unconventional greeting. Jon alas missed it; although he was carrying her, he had omitted to put in his hearing aid and so missed out on hearing something other than Squee!
