Dearly Departed Wall
Thankfully something else happened this week to divert me from a vitriolic post regarding the remarks made by a certain pontiff, and the less said about that the better. Suffice it to say that now all that is left of any prior religious leanings I ever had is ‘Lapsed’, and in my mind the only “Natural Laws” are the Laws of Physics; you can’t argue with gravity. Well you can try but it will hurt…
So what happened was that I was kicking back on the sofa after an energetic session at play group; not ignoring the annoyed noises upstairs because it hadn’t been 2 hours since she’d gone down and not reading rubbishy celeb stuff online when there was a thud, crash and a noise that can only be descibed as a load of bricks hitting the garden path.
I got up and had a look out of the bay window to see someone pulling out of our wall. Yes, someone had driven into the wall at the side of our front garden.
That wasn’t all though, what had happened it seems is that someone had attempted to overtake someone on the outside, when they were about to turn right. So what I had heard was car glancing of one car then hitting our wall and the constituent parts of our wall (read bricks) going flying across the garden, narrowly missing the bay window. The bay window of our front room where Amelia and I spend most of our days, in which the playpen where she has her timeouts is.
I managed to pull myself out of my “whut!” stupor, made sure I had my keys and ventured to go outside and find out what had happened. The woman whose car had been hit was understandably quite shaken and became more so as the reality of what had happened kicked in. It seems that the other driver had driven off and no one had gotten the number plate, luckily for us and unluckily for him he had left, along with his fog lights, his front number plate in our front garden. It was retrieved and now we are waiting for the case officer to get back to us so we can sort out insurance claims to have the wall sorted out.
More followed but I think I’ll save that for later.

The closest I have come to this sort of thing is when some numpty on rohypnol ran through a set of bars on a pedestrian island, over a steel sign pole and then through 2 garden walls (cleaning up 3 medium sized palm tree’s on the way through the garden) and smashing into the side of a car parked in a driveway.
Also forgot to mention that through sheer luck, he navigated between a 7′ brick wall and a wooden power pole.
