This afternoon, in response to the groundswell of disgust, Paperchase posted the following on their Contact Us page.
We understand that many of you are visiting us today after hearing about the origin of one of our designs. We would like to make it clear that Paperchase bought the design in question in good faith from a reputable design studio. Paperchase is deeply concerned by the allegations and we will be looking into the matter further.
A fantastic instance of passing the buck if there ever was one. Why it should take a huge outcry from the public and threats of a boycott rather than a single email from the designer in question really shows how “concerned” Paperchase are – more about their bottomline and reputation now than artistic integrity. Thankfully, as of this writing the items have been removed from Amazon so with any luck this will be resolved in favour of the original artist.
However this still doesn’t end this practice, sadly it is a fact that there are so called designers who from the comfort of their salaried positions seem to have no qualms about screwing over another artist. But they should take note that just as the internet has made it easier to cadge others’ work, it has also made it easier for them and the public to find out about it.
So if you too are boycotting Paperchase why not check out some of these designers and support them instead.
